Corien Wortmann-Kool Vice-President EPP

Corien Wortmann-Kool was born on June 27, 1959. She lives in Zeist, the Netherlands, is married to Marc Wortmann and has a 23-year-old daughter Christine and a 21-year-old son Alexander. Since the age of 19 she is active in politics and Member of the EPP Member Party CDA in The Netherlands.


Corien is Member of the European Parliament, since 2004. She is Vice-President of the EPP-Group since 2009, responsible for the Working Group Economy and Environment. She was in 2011 EP’s rapporteur for the Stability and Growth pact (‘6pack’), is involved in financial markets legislation and represents the EPP-Group in the montly meetings of EPP Ministers of Finance. She is Member of the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee, the Committee on Transport and Tourism and of the Committee on Women’s rights and Gender equality. In the previous legislative period she was also Vice-President of the International Trade Committee.

Since 2007 Corien is Vice-President of the European People´s Party (EPP). In the function of Chairwoman of Working Group 3 she is responsible for the Membership of new parties. Moreover, she is Vice-President of EPP’s SME-Union and President of the SME-women.

In 1987 she obtained a Masters’ degree in political science at the Free University of Amsterdam. After finishing her studies, Corien was member of the board of an SME. From 1996-2004, she worked at the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management, where she served as dep. Director for Transport and Infrastructure.

Corien Wortmann-Kool was Member of the Presidency of the CDJA, the CDA youth organization, from 1981-1984, and Member of the Presidency of the CDA from 1987-1994. From 1989-1994 Corien was Member of the EPP Political Bureau. She was elected to the Zeist Municipal Council from 1994-1999 where she served as CDA Group Chairwoman.

During the 1990s, Corien was Member of the Parentsboard of the Comeniusschool in Zeist. She also held the position of Vice-Chairwoman of the supervisory council of the ‘Zon en Schild’ Psychiatric Centre in Amersfoort. Since 2006 Corien is member of the jury of the Prix Veuve Clicquot (Business Women of the Year Prize). Since 2011 she is member of the Supervisory Board of Mercedes-Benz Netherlands
